Laminate cards and cut them out. Mix up the cards and put them in a pile for all players to reach.
How to play:
Decide a set playing time. (Example: 3 minutes, 5 minutes, etc).
Each player takes a turn by drawing a card from the top of the pile. If players read the word on the card correctly, they get to keep the card. If they do not read it correctly or do not know the word, they must return the card to the bottom of the pile.
If a player draws a card that says, “Snow,” then all other players must return one card to the bottom of the pile.
After a set amount of time has passed, the player with the most cards wins.
Here are the different ways I use this Sight Word Will it Snow? Game:
Centers – I use the sight word game as a center. If they have played it before with me during guided reading then they are comfortable to play as a group during centers. Otherwise, I have a parent run the game.
Guided Reading – I use the sight word game as a practice right before or at the end of the guided reading lesson or as a motivator for behavior during guided reading.
