Sight Words -- I Have Who Has
This game is my companion to Reading A-Z’s high frequency word list.
The cards have a monkey theme. The set contains 100 cards for 100 sight words.
My cards are numbered, because it is easier for me to put them into groups in the order in which they were introduced to my students. Also, having numbered cards helps the game flow smoother for my kindergarten students and helps to ensure that everyone gets to read their card.
An example of how we play…
I have 19 students sitting on the carpet in a circle, so I pass out 19 cards starting with any number, but in consecutive order. Ex. Cards 21- 39 get pass out.
My students sit in order according to the numbers on their cards. Sitting this way gives support to students who struggle with learning their sight words.
For example— John has card number 22, but does not recognize the word “of”. Tom who has card number 21 reads “I have all who has of?” When John hears the word “of” read by Tom, he realizes this is his word and is able to read at least one of his words if not both of them.
I did not make a card that reads “Begin”. I just ask whoever has card 21 to read his/her card-- and the game begins.
After every one has read their card, each student passes his/her card to the person on their right. The person holding card 21 starts the new game.
Also, if a student has trouble with reading their card they may ask for help from the person on his/her right.
It takes a couple of games, and patience for kindergarten students to get the hang of the game. Once they do, they love it and the game flows very smoothly,
