Sight Word Fun!
Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to practice sight words? Whether you choose to use these pages as a literacy center, morning work or take home activity , each page offers students practice at developing their ability to identify the pre primer Dolch sight word list. Each of the worksheets allows students to practice a total of five different sight words, I have found that this is a reasonable number of words for students on a weekly basis, you could however differentiate these activities by giving your students more time to complete the tasks, less time, or offering your students more sheets per week etc. Here is a sample of how I use the sheets in my classroom, however, feel free to use them any way that works for you in your classroom.
Monday – I give each student the new worksheet and we read each of the five words as a large group. Monday evening, students also read each of the words with their families. They then cut out the flash cards that are on the right hand side of the page. I recommend that students keep the flashcards in a zip top bag or many of my students hole punch them and secure them with a binder ring.
Tuesday - At home, students read each of the words and color all of the words. Students can also practice the words using their sight word flashcards.
Wednesday – Students read the sight words as practice. They can then trace each of the sight words and can also use their sight word flash cards.
Thursday – Students read the words and in the write it section of their worksheet they practice writing each word. They can also use their flashcards.
Friday – Students can complete any part of the worksheet that they need to catch up on or they can color the stars on their flashcards.
Each of the flashcards also has a star printed on it. I give my students the option of coloring in the stars on their flashcards on the last day of their practice or they can color them throughout the week as they master them.
