Perfect for your little builders, is this unit Building Readers with Sight Words! With a construction theme, it's sure to appeal to your little builders both boys and girls (one center features a pink tool box!) Included are the following centers, activities and games in this 68-paged unit...
~Danger Zone~ Similar to the game "Bang", this game asks students to read a sight word card. If they can read it, they keep the card; if not, it goes back in the pile. But beware of the Danger Zone cards! They will cause you to have to put back all your cards. The player with the most cards at the end is the winner!
~Hard Hat Sight Words~ Students have cards in a pile and choose one at random. They are to read the word to self or partner and write the word on a recording sheet, according to how many letters are in the word.
~Tool Box Roll~ Students have a recording sheet filled with sight word labeled tools. They roll a dice and color the tool with the matching number & word. The first to color all their tools is the winner. Can be played by self or with a small group! Five different recording sheets are included.
~Caution Spell~ Students choose a word card at random. They read the card and find the letter tiles to spell it. They spell the word on their card and record it on their recording sheet.
~Site Word Read~ This is a center to be used with teacher and student. There are different "construction site" word cards each with a list of sight words. Students read the list three times, trying to increase their time and fluency each time. The teacher can record their time and any notes on the included assessment recording sheet. This center includes cards of increasing levels, from Pre-Primer to First Grade.
~Dice and Dump~ Students roll a dice and choose that dump truck card that lists sight words spelled with that many letters. They choose a word on the card and try to spell it on their recording sheets.
~Brick Layer~ Students choose a brick card at random. They write it on their recording sheets four times: in pencil, crayon, marker and finally again in pencil.
~Orange Cone Sentences~ Students choose a cone card that features a sight word. They must use the word in a sentence and write it on their recording sheet.
~Word Tool Box~ Students sort tool cards into different tool boxes, according to the number of syllables in the word.
