Sight Words do not have to be boring to teach to your students. In fact, my store is full of fun ways to teach sight word fluency and this "Four in a Row" game is no exception. Included you will find that close to 200 sight words are included. These words are spread out among 13 different game boards.
To prepare this activity, you can print each board on card stock. This way you can use this activity in a non-consumable fashion. Simply laminate the game boards for added durability. Use mini erasers from the Target Dollar Spot...two different types of erasers, one for each player. Then you are ready to play.
Also, you can use this activity in a consumable way, just by duplicating the game boards on regular copy paper. You need 2 different color crayons or colored pencils, one for each player. Students can count their squares easily based on their color.
So no matter which way you play this, the goal is for each player to get four spaces in a row colored/covered, and to block the opponent from doing this first at the same time. Students pick a square, read the sight word aloud, their partner confirms that the word is correct, and he/she colors or covers his/her square to claim it. Once four in a row has been created, that player is the game winner.
