fly swatters, scissors, tape, heavy weight paper.
Editable version instructions:
You must have PowerPoint in order to use the editable version of this product. The text can be edited to any words that you like. You can also resize and reposition the bugs which allows you to fit more on a page if you like or make some really big bugs.
Printing & Assembly:
Set your printer to “Fit to Page” and landscape format before printing the nets and bugs.
Decide how many nets you would like to make and print that many onto heavy weight paper or card stock. Follow the included instructions to assemble the nets. As an option, the game can be played without nets. Simply have the students touch the bugs using their hands rather than a net.
Decide which words you would like to use and print them onto heavy weight paper or card stock. Cut out each bug by following the gray guideline. Laminate the bugs for durability (optional).
How to Play:
Give each student a net and spread the bugs out on a table, floor or board.
The teacher calls out a word and the first student to “catch” the bug with that word by slapping their net on the bug gets to add the bug to their pile. The student with the most bugs at the end wins the game. You can also play this game in a more controlled manner where students take turns rather than compete to catch the bug first.
The teacher or student chooses a type of bug, a bee for example. The student must say the words on each of the bees. Students can challenge themselves by seeing how fast they can call out the words.
