Description

This Sight Word Activity is perfect for reinforcing sight words in small group or as a literacy center for your kindergarten and first grade students. This is a "prep once and use for years to come" activity. Your students will love to practice reading their sight words each February while celebrating Groundhog Day.

So if your kiddos enjoy learning about Punxsutawney Phil and whether or not there will be six more weeks of winter, this sight word game will be super fun for them. Included in this set you will find adorable groundhog cards with the first 200 Fry Sight Words on them in a super readable font, and two different spinners from which you can choose, a slow game spinner and a faster pace spinner. All you have to do is print, laminate, cut, and go!

To play, students put all sight words face down in a "pool" from which to choose. Students spin the spinner of your choosing and pull that number of sight word cards from the pool. If they read the words correctly, they keep them, and if read incorrectly they go back into the pool. For a slower game, use the spinner with the groundhog that says "6 more weeks of winter" and students put all their cards back in the pool when landing on that space. Students love this and think it is hysterical! And if you have the occasional sore loser, it creates the perfect teachable moment!
