This is a fun game to play during reading workshop time or to have volunteers play with students to help them learn sight / high frequency words. This file includes all 64 Kindergarten sight words introduced within the Literacy by Design curriculum as well as ten color words. Directions are as follows and are included in the downloaded file as well:
Sight Word Game: “POP!”
To play: Cut out all popcorn. Put all of the popcorn words that you have introduced so far into a container (I found red and white plastic popcorn boxes at the dollar section at Target, but anything will work). Also add a few “POP!” cards (depends on how many words you have introduced). Students take turns pulling popcorn out of the container and read the word. If they read the word correctly, they keep the word in front of them. If the student does not read the word correctly, they have to return it to the container. If the student pulls a “POP!” card out they have to return all of their cards back to the container.
Options for the games end:
The game ends after a set amount of time.
The game ends when one player keeps a
certain amount of cards.
