Your students will love working on the sight words "like" & "me" with this sweet leveled reader, the writing craftivity, and all of the other fun activities to go along with this simple story.
If you’re like me, you are constantly searching for the next thing to get your students excited about improving their reading skills. I have created this packet to do just that for advanced preschoolers through the beginning of first grade. The student reading this book already recognizes some beginning and ending letter sounds, has print awareness, and may tell a story from memory. This student may invent text, can detect rhymes, has some syllable awareness, and is aware of the relationship between letters and sounds.
This is the first in a series of leveled readers I have written that have between 32-100 words, predictable sentence structure, predictable story and spelling patterns with simple vocabulary and mimic speech. The most important thing is that these stories have word repetion which helps students build fluency, comprehension and a love for reading. In order to ease frustration, I have avoided compound words and contractions.
The leveled reader is included along with a myriad of activities which will keep students actively engaged with the story. Students will meet multiple ELA standards upon completion, including:
Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding.
Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does).
Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion pieces in which they tell a reader the topic or the name of the book they are writing about and state an opinion or preference about the topic or book (e.g., My favorite book is...).
Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic.
With guidance and support from adults, recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
Add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions as desired to provide additional detail.
