Do you need intervention for the starter sight words to use with older children or adults? I have made these worksheets for 9 and 10 year old students who require intervention. They contain the first 45 UK sight/high frequency words, but they can be used in the US. Just check the list for words included please on the preview file.
I have found that older students who can't read are embarrassed and lack confidence in their ability. Overloading them with words that they cannot read just doesn't help. I try to start off with very easy words and those words are used repeatedly. With these four worksheets you have the student read the words in isolation until they go any further. Repeated reading will secure recognition. They then search the paragraph for the words they have read and highlight them. They are now reinforcing what they have learned. When they come to read the paragraph they find it easy and this gives instant confidence. They then get a chance to write the words, read another paragraph and then write the paragraph. This is the reinforcement that some learners need so much.
