These sight word units provide a systematic and sequential method for teaching
fifty of the most common sight words that students need to know in order to be
successful in the early stages of reading. There are ten units. Each unit introduces
5 words which are presented and reviewed in a consistent way. Each unit also builds
on the previous units, so that there is built-in review.
Students will be working on:
matching words with capital letters to the same word with lower case letters.
spelling and writing sight words
reading sight words in isolation and in context
using comprehension skills to illustrate sentences and answer brain teaser questions.
Using visual analysis to determine what letters are needed to complete the spelling
of sight words.
In addition, each unit has a send home page that should be copied on card stock.
This page explains to parents how they can help their child practice reading
and spelling each unit’s sight words.
In using these units, children enjoy the repetition which gives them the independence to
practice new words each unit.
