Inside you will find 30 choral read stories that will increase sight word recognition as well as build fluency and confidence in young readers. The words used in each story come from pre-primer and primer Dolch lists as well as the sight words used in Scott Foresmans Reading Street Curriculum. I introduce one group of sight words (listed below) to go along with each story. On Monday and Tuesday we echo read the story. On Wednesday and Thursday we choral read it together and on Friday they get to pick a partner and partner read the story. By the end of the week, students have mastered that week’s sight words and can read the story fluently. Pictures accompany the text in the beginning to help the students decipher unknown words but phase out near the end when students begin to sound out words on their own. The margins are designed to make choral read folders out of the stories. I copy the stories one-sided and place them in a paper folder with prongs in them to secure the stories. This way the students can take the stories home to read aloud to family member and bring them back to school to read together.
