This reader is designed for beginning readers learning sight words and reading strategies. It is suited to Kindergarten and first graders.
The text uses sight words already introduced, and the new sight word on the cover page. I deliberately did not use patterned text to force the reader to look at the words as he/she is reading. Students are encouraged to do what 'good readers' do when they don't know a word - get the first sound out of your mouth; look at the picture; read the first chunk and think what word would make sense.
The last page is for students to write their own sentence/s and draw a picture. Students are encouraged to use the word 'like' in their writing, and to write two sentences. I always tell them, "Now it's your turn to write."
I hope your students enjoy this little reader. I tried it with my kindergarten students today and they loved it!
