This presentation introduces students to the Significant Figures method for uncertainty propagation. It begins with a simple example that illustrates the propagation concept. From there, the presentation defines and describes the least significant digit (LSD), the greatest significant digit (GSD), and the number of significant digits.
The presentation then goes on to cover significant figures rules for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, exponentiation, and roots. Example computations are shown.
Finally, there is a discussion on uncertainty propagation in expressions with mixed operations.
