Signs of the Winter Season PowerPoint

This power point presentation explains the winter season in simple terms using real, full-color photographs. Children will learn when the winter season occurs, the winter solstice, why it snows, what animals hibernate, and more. The last 2 slides test their understanding by having them choose clothes you would wear in the winter and animals that hibernate during the winter. When a picture is clicked a smiley face correct symbol or an unhappy face "try again" symbol is shown giving students immediate feedback. After being clicked, correct pictures are then marked with a gold star to distinguish them from incorrect ones.

A brief description of each slide is below:

Signs of Winter Emergent Reader Pack

This pack includes a signs of the winter season emergent reader in 3 differentiated versions, word wall cards, templates for student-made books, and printable pages for checking students' understanding. It is the perfect compliment to our Signs of the Winter Season PowerPoint Presentation (buy both in a money-saving bundle here).

The emergent reader reviews the signs of the winter season. It uses simple, rhyming, repetitive text that students will enjoy reading. It is perfect for guided reading and as a review or introduction to your signs of winter discussion.

You receive 3 versions of the emergent reader. The differentiated versions allow you to choose the book that is the best fit for each student. Each reader is easy to assemble - simply print, cut in half, and staple (prints 2 copies, already collated).

The first version is a full-color emergent reader with real photographs from the PowerPoint along with simple, repetitive text.

The second version has black and white pictures that the students can color.

The third version requires students to draw the pictures for each page which tests their comprehension of the text. It also requires the students to trace the words from the word wall cards.

You receive 12 word wall cards (winter, cold, night, snow, tree, animals, Hanukkah, menorah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, kinara, valentine). Each card has a full-color photograph as well as the word. These are perfect for your word wall and can be used by the students when they are creating their own text.

You also receive templates for student-made books. You can choose to create a collaborative class book or individual student-made books. You have the option of using real photos that you and your students have taken or student-drawn pictures. You also have the option of using text similar to the emergent reader or allowing students to create their own text. Cover pages and student pages for each option are provided. Pages with 3 lines and pages without lines are both included for student writing.

Two printable pages that check student understanding are included. They are similar in nature to the evaluation slide in the PowerPoint presentation. One is entitled "Find Signs of Winter" and requires students to color or circle pictures that are signs of winter. The next page is entitled "What to Wear?" and requires students to color or circle clothing items they would wear during the winter season.
