The work related to phonological awareness aims to exercise the perception of the basic structures that relate spoken language and writing. The adequate knowledge and management of these basic units is fundamental for the correct learning of reading and writing. These set of activities are designed to give students multiple opportunities to learn and practice Sílabas Iniciales, their grouping and their orderly combination forming words in the Spanish Language. Activities are aligned with the Common Core Learning Standards.
An “alligator” is included to use with every activity. These tool gives students the opportunity to manipulate the sounds by actually touching and feeling it.
What you need:
Alligator template. (Print out and laminate)
Pin clothes (one per student).
Hot glue gun.
Cut the template through its outside border and glue each part of the alligator to a wooden clothespin using a hot glue gun.
How to use it:
Students open the clothespin to sound a vowel and close it when sounding a consonant.

: In this independent activity, students cut, sort and glue the pictures identifying their initial syllable sound.
Blending Mats (Sílabas con M, L, S, P, N, D, F, T, R, B, V, H and J
: In this independent or Centers activity, students use the alligator to blend letters and syllables to make up new words.

: In this independent activity, students blend letters and syllables to make up new words.
Syllables Train Puzzle
:Students substitute the final syllable of a given word to make up a new one connecting the train wagons (Color and B&W copies included)
Syllables Manipulation Worksheet
:Students substitute the initial phoneme of a given word to make up a new one.
Syllables Board Game
: In this Center Activity, students use the Spin the Wheel and Board to find the image with the corresponding initial syllable.
Syllables Spin the Wheel
:In this individual activity, students use a paper clip and pencil to spin the wheel and complete the words and sentences with the appropriate missing syllable. There is a set of worksheets for each Syllable Combination (Sílabas con m, l, s, p, n, d, f, t, r, b, v, h, j)
All activities are great for visual, tactile and kinesthetic learners.
