Independent Phonics learning center as part of a balanced literacy approach. Students visually discriminate between words with a silent "ninja" e and words without.
I've found that students quickly learn long and short vowels when they are near each other in a word but the silent e takes a lot longer to learn. This game helps students look at the whole word before they read it. I found that my students both loved playing the game and that silent "ninja" e words were suddenly much easier for them to read in books.
