What educators are saying
Includes multiple different sets/levels that increase slightly in complexity and I love how all the flash cards relate to the printed hand writing in portion for that level. So cute!
My students loved using these activities for daily review and practice. We used the activities as class work, center activities and small group work. This resource was very easy to prepare.
Description
Silent Magic - A "silent e" phonics sound game
Silent Magic is designed to reinforce the Silent E rule. In a fun, hands-on activity, students experience both orally and visually the “power” of the Silent E to change a short-vowel sound into a long-vowel sound. It can be used at centers for kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades; ESL classes; and for tutoring students of all ages.
Silent Magic contains 7 sets of cards. Each set comes with a recording sheet. Every set contains 12 cards that will form six matches. Matches are formed by pairing a short-vowel word to a long-vowel word that has the same beginning letters with a Silent E on the end (such as cap/cape, kit/kite, mad/made, cut/cute).
The playing cards can be printed and laminated, or printed on light-weight card stock. Each of the seven sets of cards has a different border. The header of each recording sheet is color coordinated with the border so that you can easily identify the correct recording sheet.
Suggested uses for Silent Magic:
Matching Game
Silent Magic can be played as a simple matching game at Language Centers. Recording sheets help to reinforce the hands-on activity.
Memory/Match Game
Lay out the 12 cards upside down in rows and have students take turns turning over two cards at a time trying to find a match. Have students read the words as they turn over the cards to reinforce the short and long-vowel sounds.
Tutoring Tool
Silent Magic makes a great “fun break” during tutoring sessions. The game makes tutoring sessions a positive experience for students while still focusing on the phonics concepts of short-vowel sounds, long-vowel sounds and the Silent E rule.
Spelling Support
Use cards from one set, or pull cards from different sets to create a center for your spelling unit.
