If you are like me and sometimes give students a reading day to catch up/get ahead, or on one of those dreaded and unexpected sick days, just ask the substitute to have them read, then this is for you.
I never know if I give them reading time whether they actually complete the reading and/or comprehend it. In order to hold them more accountable and gauge their reading comprehension I use this handout.
The handout is designed to work with any novel or even short story. It requires students to locate pivotal quotes, literary devices, and respond to the text in a personal manner.
