After working on phonics skills throughout the week I like to give my students sentences to read. I want them to know and comprehend the words in context instead of just in isolation and drill activities.
I give them 10 sentences using words from the phonics skill of that week. I ask them to draw a picture to match what they have read. This lets me know that they have read the sentence and understand it. It also requires my students to pay attention to details as some sentences require certain colors, sizes, and plural versus singular nouns.
This has been a favorite of my classes. I hope you and your students enjoy it as much as we do.
