After students have done some studying of the Silk Route, I pass this out at some point. Students review some of the challenges of travelling along the route and then determine what animal would be most ideal to take on the journey. They then write a paragraph justifying their choice. When students do this I have not yet revealed that most traders utilized the camel. Normally, in the next day or two we do some reading about camels and why they were the most frequently used animals for trade in the caravans that traveled the Silk Route.
