This Silk Road Project is designed to have students evaluate the impacts of going on a journey while researching the Silk Road and reflecting on their own lives. The project asks students to create two parts to their projects. The first part of the project asks them to draw a map that shows the Silk Road and goods and items that traveled along it as well as obstacles travelers faced. The second part asks students to reflect on their own lives. It asks them create a replica of their own Silk Road that reflects the journey their lives have taken them on, and where they would like that road to go. It asks them to reflect on obstacles they have faced and stops they have made along the way. The students enjoy this project because it allows them to reflect on their lives. I enjoy it because they not only learn a lot about the Silk Road, but I get to learn more about my students. A project hand-out and rubric is included in the download.
