A webquest with a twist! The Silk Road Quest is a contest (a race in five stages). At the end of each webquest stage, during which partners answer detailed questions about geography, culture and history, students are given a riddle to solve that requires that they use what they have learned. Students who have successfully completed the stage work on the riddle for that stage first; the first three teams to solve the riddle earn additional points. Students working pairs or alone use score sheets to track their progress.
The contest works best with gifted and regular education students who are able to work independently using the Internet. It is an excellent culminating activity for a unit on Marco Polo and the Silk Road.
