Silly Monster Word Scavenger Hunt

This is a silly monster themed game or center. Students will find CVC words or long vowel words.

This game is appropriate both for a school or homeschooled setting. You can cut out and laminate for durability.

Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.2d Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.1 (This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.)

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3c Know final -e and common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds.

Objective: Students will search the room to find CVC or long vowel words. Students will look at the picture on their recording sheet and search the room for the matching word. Students can use a swatter with a hole in it to catch the monster’s word. Students will then record the word on the recording sheet. There is an extension activity, where students will write a sentence and illustrate it with 2 of the words.

Materials:
- CVC and long vowel words on monsters.
- Recording sheet for CVC and long vowel words.
- Extension Activity
-Painters Tape to attach monsters to the wall.
-Optional– Fly swatter with hole to catch the monster’s words.
-Clipboards to hold recording sheets.
