Investigating the similarities and differences in the characteristics of various animals is a standard expectation in most elementary curricula. This comparative chart activity is part of my larger Animal Research Report Unit that is for sale in my shop, The Educationist.
There are many ways you may choose to use this product in your classroom: As a Whole Class Introductory Activity, Whole Class Culminating Activity, Cooperative Learning Group Activity, Individual Student Activity, Extension Activity for Enhanced Learners or those requiring an extra challenge.
This product also includes an answer key, Evaluation Rubric and an optional writing activity page for students to expand upon the information once the chart has been filled in.
The chart is designed so that students can make easy comparisons between animal categories and the characteristics of each. Animal categories include: insects, amphibians, reptiles, fish, birds, and mammals. Animal characteristics include: Body Coverings, Movement (body part), Birth of Offspring, Habitat (land or water), Skeleton (yes/no), Interesting Facts and Animal Examples.
