Hi and thanks for purchasing this lesson planning and resource bundle on India. It was originally made for my class here in the UK and so is linked to the UK National Curriculum (Geography unit 10 - A village in India). As such, it has worksheets about Chembakolli, which is a small village located in Tamil Nadu. To support this unit, there are many resources elsewhere on the internet about Chembakolli if you want to do a unit of work on it.
Each lesson has a full plan including a lesson focus, introduction, main teaching, activity and plenary (please see the preview file for details). All resources (worksheets) are included as well as any web links needed. The first two lessons focus on learning about India in general including;
~ concept mapping and asking questions;
~the meaning behind the flag of India; and,
~the geography of India (including map work).
The main theme of the unit is to compare life in a village in India (Chembakolli) to the place where you live. This focuses on similarities and differences between:
~general differences and similarities (lesson 3);
~ the landscape and economy (lesson 4);
~ houses in Chembakolli (lesson 5); and
~ life at school in Chembakolli (lesson 6).
These lessons rely on using free resources from Action Aid UK (http://www.actionaid.org.uk/schools/free-chembakolli-resources) which you will need to sign up for to access. However, these resources really complement the unit and cost nothing!
Finally, there is an assessment task at the end of the unit to gauge children’s understand of the similarities and differences between India and your home country.
I hope you enjoy this product and find it useful and time saving. It could be linked to further ideas on India such as cooking, religion (a study of Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism), artwork such as rangolis or sport (learn how to play cricket!) If you liked it, please feel free to give it an honest rating on my store at where I have other thematic unit plans.
