Students will practice and apply similes and hyperboles found in the novel, I Survived the American Revolution, 1776, by Lauren Tarshis. Answer Key included.
The first activity asks students to sort simile and hyperbole excerpts from the text, and glue them into the appropriate columns.
The second activity asks students to choose one simile and one hyperbole from the first activity, explain them and illustrate the meanings.
This Common Core-aligned product could be used by any student who needs practice with figurative language. Students do not have to know the novel to complete the activities.
If you are using this product in conjunction with the novel, I suggest waiting until students have finished the book so there aren’t any spoilers!
