A simple and quick way to familiarize students with similes and metaphors. Cut the strips apart and place them in a container for kids to draw out one at a time. They read the sentence out loud and tell if it is a simile or metaphor. If they get it right, they keep the stick, if not, it goes back in the container. If a student draws a “kaboom” strip, they must put all their strips back into the container. When time is up, the student with the most strips wins! An additional way to play is have students draw a strip and read it, then restate a simile into a metaphor or vice versa. Can be played with 2-5 students. These strips fit great into a Pringles® can or a Tupperware® tumbler.
