Students review and extend their knowledge of similes and metaphors by reading poems by Langston Hughes. While reading, students visualize the images of the poems and then sketch them on the corresponding worksheet. Next, they identify the similes and metaphors in the poems and infer the meaning of the poem, using a line as evidence. The first poem contains an answer key, which is shown and discussed. The class analyzes the second poem together and the remaining poems are for individual practice.
