Similes and Meanings PLUS Simile Starters in one discounted pack! Similes are one type of figurative language referenced in the Common Core State Standards 3.RL.4, 4.L.5, 5.RL.4, and 5.L.5. After students have been introduced to similes, making a class book is a great way to extend what they’ve learned.
Your kiddos will illustrate the literal meaning of a comparison such as “growing like a weed” and also the idiomatic meaning. The Meanings book has familiar similes while the Starters book has prompts for students to write their own original similes. The downloadable file consists of 2 PDFs in a ZIP file.
Each packet has 15 “AS_AS” and 15 “LIKE” similes for a total of 60 to choose from. Book covers in Color or Black + White are included, plus a Blank Template to add even more similes. Download the Preview for more information plus a sample page to try. If you prefer not to make a class book, another option is to display the finished similes on a bulletin board.
The feedback for the separate packets has been excellent:
“I love this product and can't wait to share it with my class...”
“Super high quality as always, I love your resources :)”
“Will be using this tomorrow morning.”
