I created this assessment when my class was working on our "Community Helpers unit in Social Studies. All of the similes and metaphors are about fire fighters and helping the community. However; even if your class is not focusing on community helpers, this printable is still great practice.
3 sections of figurative language:
1. Determine the similes from the metaphors.
2. Re-write metaphors to make them similes.
3. Explain the metaphor and justify the comparison being presented.
*I extended the last question into a writing opportunity. The writing prompt is included for free in the preview! :)
The last question is the metaphor, "Fire Fighters are Superheroes."
I had my kiddos tell me why the metaphor compares Fire Fighters to Superheroes? What traits and characteristics do they share?
