This is a two part sheet that can be printed two-sided. One side has four paragraphs from Because of Winn Dixie that all contain similes. Students can read the paragraphs and identify the similes by underlining or highlighting.
On the next page, the similes have been removed and there are empty lines in their place. Here, the students must construct their own similes that retain the meaning of the paragraph. This is a chance for students to show that they understand the similes in the context of the book and that they can produce their own similes that make sense.
