Simon Birch, based on the book A Prayer for Owen Meany, is a delightful movie that beautifully exemplifies heroism, purpose, internal and external conflict, point of view, tragedy, and so much more. Plus, it’s a really sweet and funny movie that works incredibly well when you need a meaningful yet “simple” plan right before Christmas break. And most importantly, it demonstrates the importance of accepting and even appreciating the differences in others. I am including a link to the movie and a quiz (key included) for students to take after viewing the movie. I’ve never had a class that didn’t thoroughly enjoy this movie. But be forewarned: keep your Kleenexes close by! The movie is rated PG, but there are a few instances of some minor language.
