This activity uses 2 letters from Simon Bolivar to deconstruct his argument and determine the reasons for Venezuelan independence.
Students must utiilize close reading strategies and contextualization questions to determine why Bolivar desired independence.
Use this as an intro to nationalism in Latin America or as a way to build of the idea of an Enduring Issue (New NYS Global Regents).
This can also be used in a US History class to demonstrate the diffusion of American and French Revolutionary ideals down through South America.
