Our Classroom Rules
1. Listen to the teacher and to each other.
2. Follow directions quickly.
3. Walk and work quietly.
4. Use kind words.
5. Respect the people and things in our school.
I have used these classroom rules for years! Simple, to the point, and easy to explain. They include some interesting words for the children to learn. I often need to spend a while explaining what constitutes and does not constitute good behavior for each one. I find that most behavior infractions fall under one of these rules. When a child breaks a rule, our conversation goes as follows:
"You (broke a crayon). That broke our rule ("Respect the people and things in our school") because now (you and other kids can't use that crayon). Next time, (you should hold crayons carefully so they don't break OR you may not use our crayons for today).
