Simple, Compound, and Complex Sentences is the perfect activity for student engagement. Page fourteen (which is a Smart Board Multiple Choice activity) can be used to check prior knowledge of students. . Additionally, this same page could be used to collect student evidence on sentence types at the conclusion of this skill. The first page has three definitions and matching vocabulary. Students check these using an interactive tool. The second page gives an example of each of the three types of sentences and matches to the correct sentence type. Again this allows students to check their understanding immediately. Ten pages have an original photographs of dogs, ducks, lizards, sea turtles and have one of each of the three sentences. Each page has a writing prompt included with it that can be used if so desired. One page uses Smart Board Vortex and allows students to sort complex and compound sentences.
