Five short worksheets help students learn to identify simple fact and opinion statements. Students highlight the fact statements and should discuss why they did not highlight the opinions. Each sheet also includes space for students to write one fact and one opinion statement about a student-friendly topic.
Teachers can do a sheet a day for a week-long introduction of facts and opinions as students are experiencing more and more non-fiction texts and informational writing. Teachers could also use one sheet a week for five weeks of skill work for students who have already been taught the concept.
