If you’d like to excite your students and get your classes to debate and really think about simple harmonic motion, this short, in-class video analysis will generate real discussion.
This 30-45 minute lesson includes analysis of five video clips on the simple harmonic motion of a pendulum, culminating in a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean. Using nothing but a stopwatch and the ability to estimate rope lengths by comparing them to human heights, you use the pendulum formula to determine the calculated length and then make a comparison.
It’s fun, funny, and students are thoroughly engaged. The product includes:
• Power Point with links to multiple video clips
• Cooperative Learning
• Real life data collection and analysis
• Teacher instructions
• Reinforcement of difficult concepts
• Student handout
