The task is to pop a balloon- easy, right? No! This simple thing must be done in the most complicated way your students can dream up, while also working within time and space restrictions. This STEM challenge is based on the work of Rube Goldberg, and it allows your students to apply their knowledge of simple machines to a task that requires both critical thinking and creativity. All of the suggested materials can easily be found in the classroom or brought in from home.
This STEM product includes:
-background information for students
-suggested literature and video links
-design brief for student use
-an evaluation tool
-suggested materials and tools
My students love this activity and ask to do it again and again. I hope yours will as well. Have fun!
