This cross curricular Simple Machines Maker Activity is designed to supplement your unit on simple machines. It includes detailed teacher directions, a reading passage, vocabulary, maker/engineering activity, and writing assignment. Students read about simple machines and use context clues from the passage to define key vocabulary. Students also draw examples of simple machines. Working collaboratively in small groups, students build an example of a simple machine. Individually, the students use the graphic organizer and writing paper to write a paragraph about their simple machine. This unit helps students master the concept of simple machines while practicing reading comprehension, using context clues, paragraph writing, creative thinking and working in small groups. This product may be used as a STEAM project.
