Topic: Simple Machines actual mechanical advantage, ideal mechanical advantage, work input, work output, and mechanical efficiency. This is an introductory lesson to introduce terms and equations before students perform labs. I use this with my freshman level general science and junior conceptual physics classes after we complete the unit on work and power. It is intended for students who are in pre-algebra or algebra 1. Depending on the level of your students, this could take between 30 and 60 minutes.
This file includes:
2 pages teacher notes (board or overhead)
2 pages for students corresponding to the teacher notes (blanks to fill in)
4 pages of practice problems for the students to apply the equations discussed in the notes before doing the "ramp lab"
pages 1,2,3, and 8 are shown in thumbnails.
