Simple Machines Unit Plan with Five Lessons. This is a five-lesson unit plan for grade 3 - 5 students which re-introduces the concepts of force, effort and load and develops them into group activities which explore the world of simple machines. Students apply the use of these simple machines (gears, pulleys, levers)to their real world applications. Co-operative learning is emphasised in these lessons as many of the manipulatives to be used are inexpensive, easily available and are simple everyday items that can be found in the kitchen. Assessment methods to be used are both formative and summative. Worksheets and pictures of materials that I have used for these lessons are included.
