Do you have students with special needs in your Inclusion English/Language Arts classroom? Are you teaching a Resource Room Reading/Writing class? Are you reading "A Christmas Carol" in your classroom? If so, there is a simplified version of the book in which you and/or the Intervention Specialist can use with struggling readers. Here are comprehension questions for each chapter that each student can complete in writing. After you read and discuss each chapter with your students, have them complete the comprehension questions on their own. Grade them immediately, providing your students immediate feedback. You can provide a grade of up to 5 or 10 points for each set of questions, which allows for easy grade monitoring. Before moving onto the next chapter, have your students make corrections to their comprehension questions for the previous chapter based on your feedback comments (if needed). Give them the opportunity to "earn" points back by making corrections to their original work.
