This activity consists of 21 problems that focus on a specific math skill. Students will complete between 8 and 13 problems to earn a total of exactly 21 points. The problems are leveled according to difficulty: 7 basic (worth 1 point each), 7 intermediate (worth 2 points each), and 7 challenging (worth 3 points each). Students are required to choose one problem from each level for a total of 6 points. To earn the remaining 15 points, they may choose and solve any combination of problems.
Providing the students with the opportunity to choose which problems they solve will not only enable them to practice a particular skill, but it will also allow them to select problems at their own level. As a result, they are more likely to complete the task and feel a sense of accomplishment!
To challenge your students, you can easily modify the activity by requiring them to choose 2 (or even 3) problems from each level! It’s entirely up to you to best meet the needs of your students!
