This resource allows students to practice simplifying expressions with integer exponents using exponent rules. It could be used as an in class activity or assigned as homework.
This resource should be used after teaching students the exponent rules.
Students will need to apply the product rule, quotient rule, negative exponent rule and zero exponent rule to complete the activity.
Students will need to use exponent rules to simplify expression #1 (no negative exponents allowed in the simplified answer.) Once they have a simplified expression, they will search the upper right of each box until they find the matching answer. Students will label this box #2. Students will repeat the instructions for problem #2. Problem #2 will lead to #3, problem #3 will lead to #4 and so on.
Problem #16 will lead back to #1 to complete the circuit.
If you have lower level students, you may want to make modifications such as allowing students to work with a partner.
