Currently we're in the thick of things with fractions and one thing I've noticed in my math groups is that if we don't practice, practice, practice simplifying fractions - they "forget" how to do it so quickly! We've played many games and worked a lot on the skill, but I wanted to make something new to capture their interest and attention again!
Behold.... Simplifying Fractions - Connect Four was born!
In our room we do guided math groups and one group that I like to have is a review group where students are always practicing a previous skill! The review group is always something the students can do independently (without my help)!
My students really loved this game! It's played just like Connect 4. Copy the game board onto cardstock and laminate for durability if you want! I copied the fraction tiles on to multiple colored sheets and put them in separate baggies. Each partner gets a different color and they play! The students have to add tiles from the bottom up and once someone wins, they can clear the board or keep playing to see who can make another Connect 4.
Another game we played and they loved just as much was our fractions checkers review game:
Have fun!! Thank you! :)
