Description

This simple board game disguises simplifying fractions as playing. Students roll the dice, move that number of spaces and follow the directions where they land. If they land on a fraction space, they must correctly reduce the fraction to simplest form or move back to where they started. The first player to reach the "Finish" space is the winner.

Explain why a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 is equivalent to a fraction (𝘯 × 𝘢)/(𝘯 × 𝘣) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
