SIMPLIFYING FRACTIONS USING THE "QUICK CAKE" METHOD!
I found that when students are simplifying fractions, many of their mistakes come from their work not being organized, and/or losing track of their process. This method solved that problem!!!
I implemented the method of using the "quick cake" (when you flip the paper over, the lines look like layers of cake!) to simplify fractions. My students consider this method "double division," where they follow the same process for simplifying fractions, but their work is more organized and less mistakes are made.
*These guided notes and practice provide detailed descriptions for each step of simplifying fractions using this "quick cake method," along with 8 practice problems for students to complete on their own.
*Each step is very detailed and broken down for student understanding. Students can keep this handout in their binder to refer back to!
*Notes are also color coded for ELL students!
