I use this game as introduction to simplifying square roots. Your students do not need to know how to simplify square roots before playing this game.
During the game, the students practice finding pairs of numbers to "take out" of the radical. As they keep matching numbers in their square roots, they eventually have an empty square root, which is the objective. The students score points when they have an empty square root. Or as we teachers like to say....a rational number.
This game is simple and allows students to either work together or sabotage each other. This is one of the few educational games that my students actually request to play. I hope your students will enjoy it as well.
Included in this file is a directional video that shows the game play and how I help the students make the connection from the game to the curriculum after they play it.
