Simply Sounds are 59 original stories that stress phonemic awareness – the relationship between letters and letter patterns and their sounds. Listening to the stories will increase auditory skills needed to identify specific sound.
They are meant to be read to the student by a teacher, parent or older student. There are no pictures to provide clues to the specific sounds. The repetition of the sound being stressed by different letter patterns as well as the rhyming lines that end with that sound provide many opportunities to hear the sound. The same 2 characters appear in each story and their dialogues utilize the same phonics skill throughout the story.
A game, list of words with similar phonics patterns, jokes and/or facts about a theme in each story are provided at the conclusion of the stories for reinforcement. For an additional interactive auditory experience, use a recordable CD, cassette player or your phone to pre-record the phonics sound in the story so that the students can guess that sound as it is being read and then hear it at the conclusion of the tale by pressing the key or button.
